The Relationships Between Research Training Environment, Researcher Identity Formation Process, and Research Activity Among Counseling Doctoral Students

Current literature claims that the graduate studentsā€™ personal aspects not only influence research training outcomes, but they also serve as a mediator between studentsā€™ research activity and research training environment. In previous studies, key predictors of scholarly/research productivity among counseling graduate students have been investigated (Brown, Lent, Ryan, & McPartland, 1996; Kahn, 2001; Kahn & Scott, 1997). However, only 17% of the variance in three factorsā€”research self-efficacy, research interests, and number of years in a programā€”predicted student research activities directly and research training environment indirectly. Banduraā€™s social cognitive theory was utilized as the conceptual framework for the study. Data was collected through SurveyMonkeyā„¢, an online source that surveyed 292 counseling doctoral students currently enrolled in 90 counseling doctoral programs across the United States. The findings from a factor analysis conducted in the present study indicated, the RIFPQ-R developed by the researcher was a reliable and valid instrument. Additionally, the findings showed that counseling doctoral studentsā€™ researcher identity correlated significantly with studentsā€™ research activity and research training environment; however, the correlations were weak. Finally, using two multiple regression analyses, studentsā€™ research experiences before admission to program, number of credit hours completed in qualitative and quantitative research, number of years enrolled in their program, and weekly hours spent doing research predicted a small portion of variance in studentsā€™ reported researcher identity and research activity

A Reaction Between High Mn-High Al Steel and CaO-SiO2-Type Molten Mold Flux: Part I. Composition Evolution in Molten Mold Flux

In order to elucidate the reaction mechanism between high Mn-high Al steel such as twin-induced plasticity steel and molten mold flux composed mainly of CaO-SiO2 during continuous casting process, a series of laboratory-scale experiments were carried out in the present study. Molten steel and molten flux were brought to react in a refractory crucible in a temperature range between 1713 K to 1823 K (1440 A degrees C to 1550 A degrees C) and composition evolution in the steel and the flux was analyzed using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence, and electron probe microanalysis. The amount of SiO2 in the flux was significantly reduced by Al in the steelthus, Al2O3 was accumulated in the flux as a result of a chemical reaction, 4[Al] + 3(SiO2) = 3[Si] + 2(Al2O3). In order to find a major factor which governs the reaction, a number of factors ((pct CaO/pct SiO2), (pct Al2O3), [pct Al], [pct Si], and temperature) were varied in the experiments. It was found that the above chemical reaction was mostly governed by [pct Al] in the molten steel. Temperature had a mild effect on the reaction. On the other hand, (pct CaO/pct SiO2), (pct Al2O3), and [pct Si] did not show any noticeable effect on the reaction. Apart from the above reaction, the following reactions are also thought to happen simultaneously: 2[Mn] + (SiO2) = [Si] + 2(MnO) and 2[Fe] + (SiO2) = [Si] + 2(FeO). These oxide components were subsequently reduced by Al in the molten steel. Na2O in the molten flux was gradually decreased and the decrease was accelerated by increasing [pct Al] and temperature. Possible reactions affecting the Al2O3 accumulation are summarized.ope

    Puerto Rico\u27s Coffee Region: A Socio-economic Profile

    Get PDF
Using demographic, social, and economic information from the US Census Bureau, this study portrays the current conditions of Puerto Ricoā€™s Coffee Region. There is evidence for the decline of the overall population in Puerto Rico, specifically younger groups, while women are economically disadvantaged in this region. Although there has been significant decline in the agricultural sector as a percentage of GDP, coffee holds significant potential to improve overall economic growth in the region

I Need MORE Help : A Rise in Demand for Special Education in Ontario

According to regulation 298 of the Ontario Education Act (1990), a primary role of educators is to ā€˜effectivelyā€™ instruct the students they have been assigned. It is my understanding that ā€˜effectiveā€™ teaching is more than simply giving the lesson of the day that aligns with the curriculum. As a teacher, I try to support my pupilsā€™ learning by taking into consideration the best possible way to serve their diverse abilities. Furthermore, I acknowledge that students may require personalized and tailored school supports in order to fully benefit from their educational experience. In my own practice, I have utilized special education programs and services as resources to individualize my pedagogy. That said, working in the realm of special education has its challenges. This major paper has the purpose of exploring these barriers while understanding special education as a growing tool to cater to the diversity of students in 20th century classrooms

Visual Art Curriculum Framework For Small Group High School Instruction: An Art Teacher\u27s Reflections

    Get PDF
For this thesis, I developed a curriculum for high school art students using centers for small group instruction that helped them develop skills and knowledge in creating art. The type of small group instruction that I implemented is centered based and includes a teacher facilitated component, an interactive activity, and a project done in a small group at their desks. The groups were broken down in levels of ability, skill, and the extra time needed for students to complete their work. By developing this type of curriculum for the Visual Art 1 course, the goal of small group instruction in the art classroom is to support student understanding of the artistic process through successful experiences

Does moxibustion work? An overview of systematic reviews

    Get PDF
Abstract Background Several systematic reviews (SRs) have assessed the effectiveness of moxibustion for a range of conditions, often with contradictory conclusions. Our aim was to provide a critical evaluation and summary of these data. Methods Electronic searches were conducted to locate all SRs of moxibustion for any condition. Data were extracted by two authors according to predefined criteria. Results Ten SRs met our inclusion criteria, which related to the following conditions: cancer, ulcerative colitis, stroke rehabilitation, constipation, hypertension, pain conditions and breech presentation. Their conclusions were contradictory in several instances. Relatively clear evidence emerged to suggest that moxibustion is effective for breech presentation. Conclusions Based on evidence from the currently available SRs, the effectiveness of moxibustion has been demonstrated for several conditions; however, due to the poor quality of the primary studies, there remains considerable uncertainty.</p
